  • Overview

    The Role:

    As an Interactive Designer at SHRM, you'll take complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, beautiful designs. You will collaborate with product owners, project managers, information architects and developers. You must possess strong communication, listening and creative problem solving skills. You will be expected to design for both digital and print mediums so an understanding of best practices in user experience, responsive design and print processes is required.


    Your Day:

    Everyday at SHRM presents new challenges to be solved. To succeed you will need the ability to:

    • Translate business requirements and user goals into effective, visually stimulating designs
    • Collaborate with stakeholders and other designers to create new concepts that maintain and develop the brand
    • Utilize best practices in responsive design and user experience
    • Design creatively for print runs and provide packaged files to the printer
    • Multitask and manage time to meet project deadlines while maintaining a high visual standard
    • Consistently apply the SHRM brand guidelines to all designs

    Types of projects include (but are not limited to): web pages, email templates and one-off collateral, ads (both print and digital), conference brochures and branding, data-heavy reports and infographics, books, postcards and fliers.


    Must Haves:

    Bachelor degree in Interactive Design, Web Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication or a related discipline.


    3 years of professional design experience.




    • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite; specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

    • Outstanding conceptual and visual design skills

    • Solid understanding of responsive design, user-experience design, typography, image optimization and color theory

    • Ability to think critically, solve problems creatively and ask questions

    • Ability to multi-task, independently manage time/projects, and maintain a design schedule without missing deadlines

    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills

    • Active-listening and the ability to incorporate constructive criticism into designs

    • Understanding of the possiblities and limitations within code is a nice-to-have
