    The Role:

     

    The Publishing & Media unit produces award-winning print and online content, information services and collateral that informs, educates, and engages the professional development and knowledge-base of members, as well as Human Resource and business professionals worldwide who follow and care about issues important to human capital management.

    The Senior Specialist, Marketing Design uses strong visual story-telling skills and strategic thinking to translate business inputs and requirements into on-brand, compelling campaigns across the full stack of print, digital, social media and on-premise media. The Senior Specialist leads in ideation and creative concepting with the marketing, events, brand, communications and policy teams on activations, events, campaigns and stunts. Using typography, iconography, data, and space, the designer will create visually engaging, consistent and functional brand experiences from the ground up in support of events and public relations campaigns, juggling multiple projects at any given time while ensuring all agreed-upon deadlines are met.

    Responsibilities

    Your Day:

    • Transform strategic messaging into customer-centric, clean, compelling designs and campaigns, utilizing best practices in user experience, while adhering to SHRM brand standards and design guidelines.

    • Develop campaign themes, standards and individual pieces based on a user-first approach, while incorporating business needs and timelines. Create new branding materials that can span print, digital and on-premise applications in support of a range of SHRM business lines, but with a particular focus on SHRM’s Annual Conference.

    • Create and implement flat and HTML5 infographics, ads, specialty landing pages and social media graphics supporting Marketing and Communications initiatives. Keep up with new trends in advertising, digital communications, design and creative execution to bring fresh ideas to the table across channels.

    • Effectively manage workflow to ensure all critical production schedules are met across multiple complex projects.

    • Translate raw data and integrate audience awareness into easily consumed infographics and stories that will support campaigns and collateral.

    • Clearly communicate and present design concepts to stakeholders taking into account business requirements, crucial to-market timelines. Utilize active-listening to better understand stakeholder needs and concerns. Present thoughts in an understandable manner, depending on audience at hand.

    • Collaborate with coworkers vertically and horizontally across the organization, approaching projects from a team perspective and understanding that different perspectives make a product stronger and more thoughtful.

    • Stay current with the latest design trends, tools and best practices.

    Qualifications

    Must Haves:

    • No degree is required if work experience and portfolio adequately demonstrate candidate’s ability to perform job functions.
    • 5 years of experience working on a design team with at least 3 years focused on digital or visual storytelling.

    • Fluent in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, specifically: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
    • Understanding of responsive web design, grid layouts and UX best practices.
    • Demonstrated “full stack” experience in building brand identities across a range of media.
    • Active listening and superior communications skills to thoughtfully conceive and persuasively present design concepts.
    • Ability to create compelling infographics, ads and web pages.
    • Fluent in HTML5; sufficient familiarity with other coding languages to speak to developers.
    • Strong understanding of capabilities and limitations of technology in design execution.
    • Understanding of printing press capabilities and limitations. Ability to design creatively for one to six color print runs.

    Let us know if you also have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in web design, graphic design, visual communication or related field.
    • Fluent in Sketch.
    • Fluent in Google Analytics.
    • Familiarity working in Tableau or other business intelligence graphics tools.
