    The Publishing & Media unit produces award-winning print and online content, information services and collateral that informs, educates, and engages the professional development and knowledge-base of members, as well as Human Resource and business professionals worldwide who follow and care about issues important to human capital management.


    The Digital Design Specialist collaborates with teams across SHRM to research and design creative and user-centric web and email interfaces informed by best practices in usability and experience design.  Under the supervision of the Creative Services Director, support SHRM initiatives with on-brand creative, cohesive and visually stimulating end-user experience for and its affiliates and partners, ensuring mobile enabled, responsive design.


    Your Day:

    • Translates business requirements, user goals, and UX researches into functional design specifications based on wireframes and information architecture either provided by IT or created in collaboration with IT.
    • Under the supervision of the Creative Services Director, originates new concepts and maintains existing features of: websites, products, webparts, newsletters, ads, graphics and art.
    • Performs UX research and interaction design, either as a lead or team participant for websites, webparts, apps, products, emails, interactive graphics, ads and art, as assigned.
    • Works closely with information architects, developers and QA to ensure a quality user experience from start to finish.
    • Assists with the creation and maintenance of responsive email templates for use throughout the organization.
    • Brainstorms and executes creative designs alongside the marketing, editorial, research and knowledge center teams.
    • Understands and follows brand guidelines and ensures SHRM's brand is consistent across platforms.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.


    Must Haves:

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 2-5 years of working in digital design.
    • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, and familiarity with environments using ASP, XML, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, PHP, Google Analytics and MS Office.
    • Outstanding conceptual and visual design skills.
    • Fluent in usability standards, experience design principles, responsive and SEO techniques; able to translate these into design of complex websites, email templates and web functionality.
    • Solid understanding of design typography, layout, image optimization, image compression techniques, and color theory and management.
    • Awareness of and keen interest in digital design trends and technologies.
    • Ability to effectively manage time and make deadlines.
    • Experience in Agile development methodologies to support collaborative, iterative and improved design and development, including familiarity with organizational ticketing systems such as JIRA.
    • Ability to communicate detailed design concepts clearly and persuasively across various levels of the organization.


    Physical Demands


    Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
